You got me

Postby Kristo » 09 Nov 2006 11:00

Well this mail client got me finally.
It seems very promising indeed.

Several questions:
Are there plans for:
Notes?
Tasks?
Calendar?
Shared Contacts?

What are notes supposed to be?

Tasks and Calendar are planed but probably only on one computer. no sharing across network is planned ATM.
You can share contacts between users on same computer use Public address book, if you mean shared on network, then currently no. (But I'll add on todo list a feature to share Public address books across network)

After finishing html editor and getting rid of mshtml to render html (sometime till next weekend) some si.Mail unique features will get very high priority.

Miha

@gassnico: this is classic calendar export file.
I beleive I can at least manage to display this and for now I think that just viewing it would be enough. :)

Have the mail sharing possibilities changed since nov 2006?
Is it possible to share one directory with the mailbox on a network drive with multiple pc's or would the mailbox get corrupt?

I think of a wireless router with an USB stick as storage device.

Until now Outlook can't share it's mailbox (without a dedicated server running), most clients can't.
So it would be a very nice feature.

Kind regards,

Bert

AFAIR it is possible to have messages e.g profile on the networked drive, but messages file and index file will probably became corrupt if more than one client would be accessing them.

Safest solution for sharing messages between computers would really be to have a server in between, which would store messages and index files. Because this is the only safe way of really be sure that none of the processes doesn't corrupt messages or index files.

Also another possibility would be for one instance of si.Mail to act as a server and another instance would then connect to remote "storage".

What if:
Some lockmanger/lockingfile/flag in the mailbox file(s) whould be used, to allow other instances to detect if one "server" instance is fetching mails and prevents the from doing the same/or update the mailbox file/db. The other instance(s) could write their send mail/delete mail command to a file temporary, that would be merged by the "server" instance. After which the "server" instance releases all locks/writes and even an other instance could act as "Server". By signaling (by using an extra "Mailbox was updated" flag/event) the other instances should reload the mailbox file(s).

Kind regards,
Bert

This sure is possible but still the main problem would be doing it right.
Other thing is there is at least IMAP support that has a higher priority than sharing common mailbox/index file across network.
