"Send to..."

Postby pestasoft » 18 Dec 2007 20:35

Hello Miha,

system function "Send to -> default e-mail client" not works but "Send to > si.Mail" works.

For example i am right click on image and select "Send to" and "E-mail" - si.Mail create new message but attachments empty. When i am use "Send to" and "si.Mail" then si.Mail create new message contains attachments.

When i use PICASA from GOOGLE (http://picasa.google.com/) then send selected images to "Default e-mail client" then si.Mail write text on message but not attach images...

si.Mail 0.9.8.1404, Windows VISTA Home Premium and Windows XP Professional

2nd method for passing attachments must be studied and implemented into siMailMapi.dll. All code is in siMailMapi.dpr which creates a dll.

This is fixed along with some other improvements in latest dev. build. So for latest version mapi dll you also need latest version of si.Mail.

I post here, it seems the appropriate discussion, think it's better than opening a new one.

I don't know if this behaviour is still present; since you're around fixing, I'm reporting it, concerning 1.1.0.1530.
siMailMapi.dll is 1.7.0.200 (which is the same contained 2008-02-17 build)

Sometimes I have troubles attaching files.

Example:
I open a .pdf document inside a web page. It is surely saved in a temp dir.

Then I click on the mail icon on Adobe Reader and of course choose "Send a Copy".

A new window message opens in Compose mode, with the file attached.
I write the destination address and press Send...

A message is sent but there's no file attached!!
The message size is tiny (in this case it should have been bigger, around 40÷50 KB)

I see no errors or warnings in the send status:

Code: Select all

[17.31.15] Connecting 'theV'...
[17.31.15] > 250 HELP
[17.31.15] Generating message 1 of 1.
[17.31.15] Smtp send noOp to server.
[17.31.15] > 250 noop to you
[17.31.15] > Message built.
[17.31.15] Smtp sending sender to server.
[17.31.15] > 250 Sender ok
[17.31.15] Smtp sending recipients to server.
[17.31.15] > 250 Recipient ok
[17.31.15] Sending message 1 of 1. Size: 2,03 KiB (2081)
[17.31.16] > 250 Ok: queued as B66A62BE1
[17.31.18] Done. Waiting for next task.

It doesn't matter whether I tick or not the "zip" flag in attachments panel.
I also tried with very different browsers (IE and Opera) and it's the same.

By the way:
yesterday I correctly sent (I dragged it directly from a folder) a 15 MB file.
Since the process took several seconds, I could see that the message in Sent mail first appeared with the tiny size, then was "updated" with the correct one, after the "Generating message..." operation was accomplished.

So I think the problem might be during this specific operation.

I believe that the problem is elsewhere. si.Mail attaches file in Generating message step when sending the message so if file is not available anymore it simply isn't attached. Do we need a message or drop out with an error in this case?

Miha

Well,
since I noticed it casually and it is an unexpected behaviour - no matter where the fault lies - I think at least a visible warning should be given; or better, don't send any message and give out an error.

As you see, now we have NO hint at all of the missed file attachment, except manually checking the size of the sent message.

It was not, but should have it been important mails (job curricula etc.) it could have been quite a damage for the sender to send an empty mail and have trust/forget about it.

If you want me to check something about temp files etc., please ask and I'll experiment.

Hi the V,
Sorry it took a while, this should be fixed in today's development build.
si.Mail now bails out with error, if file that should be attached doesn't exist anymore when message is being built.

Regards,
Miha
